The motto of Mossad, Israel's foreign intelligence agency, is: “By means of deception thou shalt wage war.”

On January 19th, 2010, a team of some 29 Mossad operatives arrived in Dubai with the apparent mission to assassinate Palestinian militant Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, one of the leaders of the armed wing of Hamas.

While their target abandoned routine security protocols, the Israeli team used clumsy disguises and methods of payment that were easy to track.

The following day, the body was found in his hotel room - the door seemingly locked from the inside.

Diplomatic wrangling ensued. And one of the Israelis ended up dead several months later under suspicious circumstances.
