Antonio Luna was a soldier, chemist, strategist, and hero of the revolutionary war for Philippine independence. Recognized as a most capable foe by the US invaders trying to dominate the islands, but perceived as a threat by some of his fellow Filipinos, Luna was assassinated in 1899. Their principal military opponent gone, the Americans completed their colonial takeover of the Philippines soon after.
